Kalman Kivkovich, CPI President
Elected to a 2-year term (May 2010-May 2012)
May 17, 2010
Hello,
My name is Kalman Kivkovich, and thank you for exploring CPI website.
A little about me
I am a retired architect, an artist, author and playwright. I was born in Kazakhstan in 1945 to Polish nationals, lived in Poland, Israel, Italy and for the last 37 years in the USA. I published my first work of nonfiction in 1975, in Italy. My first novel, In the Vise of Evils, will be published later this year. To date CPI has selected six of my plays for staged readings. The first, In the Vise of Evils, based on my novel, was awarded an unprecedented two performances (2007) and set CPI’s highest attendance record. Embers from the Ashes: A Girl's Holocaust Diary, my second play, received a full-house public staged reading in May 2008, and A Stop in Paris in May 2009. Three one-acts, Apartment for Rent, Hell on I-71, and Cicadas on Us, were given a public staged reading in March 2010. I am working on another Holocaust-themed play about a celebrated, world-renowned local violinist, Henry Meyer. When not writing or working for CPI I try to allocate time to visit local theaters as well as dance—ballroom dance.
My Goals with CPI
To run CPI efficiently in a constructive way as a TEAM
To develop the CPI environment so as to increase participation and to create greater anticipation for participation in our functions
To grow the image of CPI within the community
To increase the number of volunteers and boost recognition to those who do
To strengthen our programs, such as New Voices, the Playwriting Salon, Cold Readings, Playwriting Workshop and others
To breathe life into Fundraising
To encourage young talents to join our ranks, and to take advantage of the prestigious theater schools in our community
To ‘give birth’ to CPI New Plays Festival, enhancing New Voices Series with FULL PRODUCTIONS of the best script(s)-in-progress. The logistics and the mechanics of the process need to be ironed out so as to be fair to ALL members, and to take full advantage of the vast and varied experience of the human resources within CPI.
You have my solemn pledge that I shall do my utmost to lead CPI toward its brightest possible future.
Thanks for the visit and feel free to contact me with any questions you might have.
Best,
Kalman Kivkovich
